Course Description
This dynamic theoretical and hands-on course introduces concepts of movement and posture, both involving static movement such as resting positions, dynamic movement and how this relates to pain posture and performance.
During the theoretical introduction Jandas, upper and lower crossed syndrome, will be expanded upon as well as the fundamental mobility and stability needs of the human body. These theories will be interlaced as there is some considerable crossover.
Postural assessments combined with movement assessments as well as assessing resting positions, will provide the participants with treatment plans. Using techniques taught throughout the class such as myofascial release, muscle energy techniques as well joint mobilization techniques with the key emphasis in restoring pain free movement and resting postures. Soft tissue techniques including neuromuscular trigger point therapy, muscular energy technique and myofascial release techniques, will be used in order to correct and to improve the assessment portion of the class.
Therapist will learn self-care techniques that include self-myofascial release, muscle energy technique's as well as muscle activation exercises.
Overall body balance is best achieved by increasing mobility and stability.
Learning Objectives
-
Observe and assess for Jandas, upper and lower crossed syndrome
-
Screen for the two fundamental movement patterns (shoulder, thoracic spine mobility and active straight leg raise)
-
Learn why rest positions are fundamental to understanding human movement patterns
-
Learn how to incorporate soft tissue techniques to improve range of motion for the two fundamental movement patterns
-
Learn stretches to improve the two fundamental human movement patterns
-
Learn how resting postures can be used for assessment, treatment and prevention of muscular pain
-
Learn how to and when to incorporate myofascial release muscle energy techniques and neuromuscular trigger point therapy into the treatments
